Lazy days of summer…
I admit it. It’s summer, and I’ve been extremely lazy (or distracted) with getting new content onto my site. Of course, the result is my GUARDZ strip suffers first. Truth is, I’ve suffered a massive case of Artists’ block again. Luckily I have a backlog of strips to set up, but having Artists block still makes me too lazy do…well anything!
My solution: simplify things! Not in the sense of making my strips simpler (although, I have been using “digital” cheats to add panels, I’ll delve into that later). One thing I’ve noticed about being lazy is that you tend to sit in front of the TV a lot. The quick solution for this is simply turn off the boob tube. You’ll find you can get a lot done if your attention isn’t squarely focused on the glowing box in front of your couch.
Of course, you still have that “entertainment” void to fill in when you’re up and doing more, so my attention has turned to podcasting and music. Podcasting is a new tool I discovered thanks to my PSP (Playstation Portable, not Paint Shop Pro). Podcasts, for those not in the know, are sort of like Internet radio shows that you can stream or download. I’m finding a lot of “homebrew” podcasts that are tailored to my interests, and its always fun seeing when they’re updated. A lot of these podcasts are of high quality, so try one out. They can run the gamut of subjects, so their’s something out there for everyone. Eventually I’d like to list a few of my favorites on my interests page.
Music: buying that new album that you always intended to buy or rediscovering an old album always seems to pull me out of a rut. I can visualize art better with a rhythm or drum beat in the back of my mind (I think I read somewhere where George Lucas wrote Star Wars to classical music). Changing up my music styles always gives me a spark- I freely move from RnB, Hip-Hop, Musical Scores, classical, Rock and even Wrestling themes to help move my creativity.
So try turning off that TV, every once and a while and just listen. You may like what you hear.
